Subject: BEAVER VALLEY UNIT 2 FORCED OUTAGE - UPDATE

Discussion:

On July 20, 1999, Region I dispatched a team of inspectors to the Beaver
Valley Unit 2 plant to perform a special inspection of the events
surrounding the loss of an emergency bus on July 16, 1999.  The loss of
the emergency bus resulted in the loss of reactor coolant pump seal
injection flow and the loss of reactor coolant pump thermal barrier
cooling flow to two of the pumps for about 3 minutes.  The special
inspection team will review the circumstances concerning the loss of the
emergency bus, and the actions taken by the operators. The team will also
evaluate other equipment problems which occurred prior to, during, and
after the loss of the emergency bus, and during the subsequent plant
shutdown.

Regional Action:

The resident inspectors are on site monitoring licensee activities.
