Purpose

The NRC will host a public workshop with representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and the American Nuclear Society (ANS). The workshop will consist of two parts. The purpose of the first part is to facilitate technical discussions on similarities and differences among approaches to risk-informed site characterization, seismic design, and consequence analysis reflected in NEI 25-08 (ML25335A211), NEI 26-03 (ML26195A253) and the ongoing revision to ANSI/ANS-2.26-2004 (R2021), “Categorization of Nuclear Facility Structures, Systems, and Components for Seismic Design.” The discussions will focus on selected technical topics to facilitate a better understanding of the similarities and differences among the approaches described in these documents. A comprehensive review of each document is not intended. An opportunity for public comment will be provided during the first part. The purpose of the second part of the meeting is for NRC staff to summarize publicly available information in draft regulatory guide DG-4036 (ML25272A272) on unmitigated consequence analysis and the use of seismic margin in risk-informed site characterization.
