2.0 Site Status Summary

The Hecla Mining Durita Facility, located near Naturita, CO, is a former heap-leach uranium recovery facility. The site is closed and decommissioning work has been completed. The site is stable and under control. Colorado and NRC are in discussions about the adequacy of the ground water monitoring portion of the Closure Report Review (CRR). Acceptance of the CRR is necessary prior to transferring the facility license to the U.S. Department of Energy for long-term management under general license.

3.0 Major Technical or Regulatory Issues

The NRC and the State of Colorado are in discussions regarding the ground water portion of the CRR, specifically whether it's an adequate demonstration that the site poses no future risk via the ground water pathway.
