Blue Core Energy building

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is currently engaged in pre-application activities with BlueCore Energy, Inc. (BlueCore) as of July 2026. BlueCore is developing its Nautilus Floating Nuclear Power Plant, a 45 megawatt thermal (MWt) pressurized water reactor designed for deployment on a non-self-propelled barge. The BlueCore-15 (BC-15) reactor uses standard 17x17 Optimized Fuel Assembly (OFA) fuel geometry with low-enriched uranium (LEU) UO2 at 4.95% enrichment and light water coolant and moderator. The reactor uses a conventional fuel and primary system design to concentrate the remaining first-of-a-kind regulatory questions on the marine deployment platform rather than the core nuclear design. The reference operating location is the Port of Long Beach, California.

For more information related to BlueCore and its BC-15 design, please see the BlueCore Energy, Inc. pre-application documents under NRC Docket 99902177.
