Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste and Materials Documents

Effective June 6, 2025, the Commission directed the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) to cease activities associated with the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste and Materials (ACNW&M) in accordance with Executive Order (EO) 14300, "Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission," dated May 23, 2025. Section 4.(b) of the EO states, in part, that the functions of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) shall be reduced to the minimum necessary to fulfill ACRS's statutory obligations.

These pages and documents will be kept for historical context and document availability.

On June 1, 2008, the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste and Materials merged into the ACRS. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's decision to merge ACNW&M into ACRS was based on the changing workload and technical challenges facing the agency and the anticipated increased need for expertise in health physics, waste management, and earth sciences in the agency's licensing reviews for new reactors, the mixed-oxide nuclear fuel fabrication facility, and facilities related to the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership.
