Virginia: Agreement State Information
Virginia is an Agreement State. On March 31, 2009, Virginia became an Agreement State and assumed responsibility for licensing and regulating the possession and use of specified nuclear materials within its borders. In addition, the Commonwealth has jurisdiction over x-ray equipment, naturally occurring radioactive materials, and certain radioactive materials that are not produced in a reactor.
The NRC's Regional Office in Atlanta, Georgia, (Region II) is responsible for carrying out the Agency's duties in Virginia related to operating reactor licensees and fuel facilities. The NRC's Regional Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, (Region I) oversees Virginia materials licensees.
