Saint Louis University (EA-2023-121/EAF-RIII-2023-0015)

On April 3, 2025, the NRC issued a notice of violation and proposed imposition of Civil Penalty - $9000 (Notice) to St. Louis University (licensee) for a Severity Level (SL) III problem. The SL III problem involved the licensee’s failure to secure licensed materials from unauthorized removal or access as required by 10 CFR 20.1801; and the failure to perform radiation surveys before disposing licensed material by transfer to an authorized recipient, as required by 10 CFR 20.1501(a). These failures resulted in a unit dosage of radium-223 being disposed in the normal trash. In addition, the Notice included an SLIV violation of 10 CFR 35.40(a) that was dispositioned as a non-cited violation, consistent with Section 2.3.2.b of the Enforcement Policy.

Paramount Builders, Inc. (EA-24-058/EA-R4-2024-0014)

On January 13, 2025, the NRC issued a notice of violation and proposed imposition of civil penalty (Notice) in the amount of $9,000 to Paramount Builders, Inc. (licensee) for a severity level III violation. The violation involved the licensee’s failure to confine the possession and use of byproduct material to the purposes authorized in its license, as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 30.34(c). The Notice also includes ten SL IV violations associated with the licensee’s radiation safety program.
