Strategic Planning
On this page:
Introduction
Every 4 years the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission prepares and submits a strategic plan, as required by the Government Performance and Results Act Modernization Act of 2010. This plan lays out the NRC's strategic goals, objectives, and strategies. This information provides the context for management decisions regarding performance goals, priorities, strategic human capital planning, and budget planning.
The NRC's Strategic Plan (NUREG-1614) provides a blueprint for the agency to plan, implement, and monitor work needed to achieve the agency's mission. It establishes performance expectations and provides a basis for the agency's annual budget and performance plans. The plan also offers an overview of agency responsibilities and how we use data and evidence in our decision making. Success in achieving each goal in the Strategic Plan will be gauged primarily through performance measures contained in the agency's annual Congressional Budget Justification.

Fiscal Years 2022-2026 Strategic Plan
The NRC Strategic Plan for FYs 2022-2026 includes three strategic goals: ensure the safe and secure use of radioactive materials, continue to foster a healthy organization and inspire stakeholder confidence in the NRC. The strategic plan is supported by an Evidence Building Plan (Learning Agenda), Annual Evaluation Plan, and Capacity Assessment as required by the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018 (Evidence Act).
