Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research

The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) will continue to provide agencywide support and will not be consolidated within a specific business line. The staff will continue ongoing efforts to ensure research activities are prioritized based on their expected contribution to critical licensing and oversight projects, and that the agency’s research program is right-sized and appropriately leverages related work conducted by other Federal agencies (e.g., by the U.S. Department of Energy through the national laboratories). Technical training functions, including the Technical Training Center, will move to RES, along with the Nuclear Reactor Apprenticeship Network program, which will expand the office’s size and role.
