NRC ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITY FOR HEARING ON HADDAM NECK LICENSE TERMINATION PLAN
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has announced an opportunity to request a hearing on the license termination plan for the Haddam Neck nuclear plant in Haddam, Conn. The plant is owned by the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company.
A notice regarding the Haddam Neck plan was published in the Federal Register today. The notice offers a 30-day opportunity to request a hearing on a license amendment proposed by Connecticut Yankee which would approve the Haddam Neck license termination plan (LTP), once it has been reviewed and found acceptable by the NRC staff. Connecticut Yankee submitted its proposed LTP on July 7 of this year. An electronic version is posted on the NRC's website at www.nrc.gov/OPA/reports/hnltr.html.
The deadline for hearing requests is January 12 -- 30 days after the Federal Register notice was published. By that time, petitions requesting a hearing and leave to intervene must be filed by anyone whose interest might be affected by the license termination plan and wishes to participate as a party to the proceeding. A copy of the Federal Register notice can be viewed online at: www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a001213c.html.
Requests for hearings should be sent to the Secretary of the Commission, and a copy sent to the Office of the General Counsel, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001, Attention: Docketing and Services Branch or may be delivered to the NRC Public Document Room in Rockville, Maryland. A copy should also be sent to the Connecticut Yankee attorney, Mr. Robert K. Gad, III, Ropes and Gray, One International Plaza, Boston, Mass. 02110-2624.
