With the understanding that nuclear power is now a global enterprise, and that all countries have an abiding interest in seeing that the use of nuclear power is accomplished with a focus on safety, this session will explore how the international community is developing innovative programs that leverage the knowledge and experience accumulated by States with advanced nuclear programs to encourage cooperation and assistance within the international community. This session will include reports on the Multinational Design Evaluation Program’s cooperation on design reviews and vendor inspections, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cooperative activities on new reactors, and progress made by the Nuclear Energy Agency Working Group on the Regulation of New Reactors.
