United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

The purpose of ROP Enhancement 2020 is to improve ROP (Reactor Oversight Process) effectiveness and efficiency by making the program more risk-informed and performance based. The ROP is already a highly effective program that has proven itself over the last two decades. Changes proposed are limited and represent minor refinements to the overall program that are based on decades of operational experience.

Focus

Resources are limited, that's why it is important to direct agency resources effectively. Proposed changes enable the agency to direct resources toward those areas of greater safety significance.

Agility

Recommended changes provide NRC staff more time to address those areas that are more safety significant. This includes areas that are part of the baseline inspection program and areas that are emergent.
