Kathryn Held

Kathryn D. Held is President of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP). She was first elected to NCRP Council in 2006, served on the NCRP Board of Directors from 2008 to 2014, was Vice President of Program Area Committee 1 on Basic Criteria, Epidemiology, Radiobiology, and Risk from 2011 to 2016, and was Executive Director and Chief Science Officer from 2016 to 2018. Dr. Held is an Associate Radiation Biologist in the Department of Radiation Oncology, Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology (Radiation Biology) at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Held earned her PhD in biology from the University of Texas, Austin. She has served on review panels, advisory boards and other committees for numerous federal agencies including the NIH, NASA, the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, and Brookhaven National Lab, and other organizations such as the National Academies of Science, the American Board of Radiology and the American Society of Radiation Oncology. She is on several editorial boards and teaches extensively around the world.
