David Lew
Mr. Lew is the Regional Administrator for the NRC’s Region I office located in King of Prussia, PA. The Region I office is responsible for the inspection and safety assessment of 13 nuclear power plant sites (21 power reactors) and several sites undergoing decommissioning. The Region I office also oversees the inspection and licensing of medical, academic and industrial users of radioactive materials in 20 states and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Seventeen of those states are Agreement States, which implement the NRC’s radioactive materials inspection and licensing programs.
Mr. Lew has over 38 years of federal service and was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in February 2004. In addition to the Region I office, he served in the NRC’s Headquarters office located in Rockville, MD; the Region II office located in Atlanta, Georgia; and, NRC field offices located at nuclear power reactor sites in Lacey Township, NJ and Buchanan, NY. Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Lew served in the US Navy aboard the USS George C Marshall, a nuclear submarine that has since been decommissioned. In his capacity as a nuclear trained naval officer, he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ship’s nuclear power plant.
Mr. Lew is married with two daughters. He grew up in New York City and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He is a graduate of Columbia University.
