Candace de Messieres
Dr. Candace de Messieres is a Technical Assistant for the NRC’s Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) where she supports the executive team in advancing NRR's priorities and vision. Previously, Dr. de Messieres served as Reliability and Risk Analyst in the Division of Risk Assessment and on the Risk Informed Licensing Initiatives Team missioned to develop and implement guidance for first-of-a-kind risk-informed licensing applications and to support agency initiatives to broaden the use of risk insights. Dr. de Messieres has also served as an Operating Reactor Project Manager in NRR's Division of Operating Reactor Licensing.
Prior to joining the NRC, Dr. de Messieres was awarded an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellowship to work at the Department of Energy (DOE). At DOE, Dr. de Messieres encouraged novel research and development for Concentrating Solar Power systems and components by developing funding opportunity announcements and serving as an active technical project manager. Dr. de Messieres performed her doctoral thesis research in experimental biophysics through an intramural research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and received her Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Maryland College Park in 2012. Dr. de Messieres received a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Music from Gettysburg College in 2006.
