Deborah Thomas

Ms. Thomas began her career with the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Inspector General (OIG) in June 2000 as an auditor with the Richland Audit Group located in Washington State.  She has conducted and overseen performance audits, inspections, special projects, and congressional requests in the areas of Environmental Management, the Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration, covering topics ranging from contract and performance management to nuclear quality assurance.  In 2010, Ms. Thomas joined Energy Northwest; an agency that owns and operates four electricity generating facilities, including the Northwest's only operating nuclear power plant, the Columbia Generating Station.  Ms. Thomas served as the Executive Board's Administrative/Internal Auditor and then as the Supervisor of Supply Chain Services.  In 2012, she returned to the OIG as the Team Leader for the Richland Audit Group.  In her current role as Director, Ms. Thomas oversees the Richland Audit Group and the Livermore Inspection Team, located in California.  Under Ms. Thomas' leadership, her teams have received numerous awards and recognition for excellence, both within the OIG as well as from external groups.

Ms. Thomas graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology from the University of Idaho.  Ms. Thomas earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in August 2018.  She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.  She is a graduate of the American University/Key Executive Leadership Experienced Leader Program.  Ms. Thomas actively volunteers as a Board Member for a local non-profit lacrosse club in in which both her boys participate, and enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her family.
