Abhinav Gupta is the Director of Center for Nuclear Energy Facilities and Structures (CNEFS) and Professor at NC State University. In the past, he has also served as a Visiting Faculty with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Research. Gupta's research interests are focused on using advanced modeling, simulation, and computational tools including AI and Machine Learning for risk assessment in nuclear energy facilities particularly in the context of multi-hazard external events with an emphasis on vulnerability beyond design basis. Most recently, his research group has been recognized for developing a risk-consistent data-driven methodology for verification and validation of simulation codes. He has also worked on developing new computational and statistical models needed for decision support and strategy development in reducing the operation, maintenance and construction costs associated with buildings, equipment, and piping. His work on developing new methods for seismic analysis and design of equipment and piping has resulted in multiple NUREG reports as well as updated Regulator Guides by USNRC. He was the recipient of the most outstanding paper award in the seismic division at the 2005 ASME-Pressure Vessel and Piping Conference. He is the Chair of 25th International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT 25) scheduled for 2019. He has Chaired ASCE's Technical Committee on Emerging Computing Technologies and served as an Editor of ASCE's Journal of Structural Engineering. At NC State University, he serves on Chancellor's Advisory Committee for the Park Scholarship Program and is a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
