Boby Abu-Eid

Dr. Boby Abu-Eid is a Senior Level (SLS) Advisor at the U.S. NRC since June 2005. He joined the NRC in March 1991 as a performance assessment analyst.  He provides technical analysis and advice in the review of, and regulatory licensing aspects of "low-level radioactive waste management," decommissioning, uranium recovery, and environmental protection.  In his present position, Dr. Eid’s principle activities include:  technical/policy analysis; risk analysis and safety reviews, development of models/codes for decommissioning and waste management performance assessment; as well as international coordination of safety standards in these areas.  He is a key contributor to assessment and development of NRC criteria for decommissioning for site releases, as well as the decommissioning standard review plan.  He is the U.S. coordinator for review of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) waste safety standards, a bureau member of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA's) "Working Party on Dismantling and Decommissioning," and a member of WM Symposia Program Advisory Committee.  Dr. Eid is a recipient of NRC’s "Meritorious Service Award," and is a member of the American Nuclear Society. Before joining the NRC, Dr. Eid conducted advanced research and/or taught at: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Bonn, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Johns Hopkins University, and Carnegie Institution of Washington. In 1975, he was awarded a Ph.D. from MIT.
