In May 2016, Daniel Iracane, French national, joined the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) as Deputy Director-General and Chief Nuclear Officer.
Prior to taking up this role, Dr. Iracane was the Deputy Director of the International Affairs Division of France's Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA).
Earlier, Dr. Iracane served as director of the project to construct the CEA Jules Horowitz Reactor, a new high-performance material testing facility, being in charge of the international partnership, the construction and the future utilisation of this facility.
He has also led research programmes in the context of the French national program dedicated to long-term management of nuclear wastes.
Graduated from the French École Polytechnique having earned a PhD in theoretical physics, Daniel Iracane joined the CEA to develop fundamental studies in the field of high energy physics.
