Kathryn Held

Kathryn D. Held, Ph.D., is President of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP).  Prior to becoming NCRP President in January, Dr. Held was Executive Director of NCRP for two years, had served on the NCRP Board of Directors and several scientific committees, and has been on NCRP Council since 2006.  Dr. Held is also an Associate Radiation Biologist in the Radiation Oncology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School, as well as Distinguished Visiting Professor at Gunma University, Japan.  In addition to her work in radiation protection with NCRP and her laboratory research on radiation biology related to radiation oncology and to low dose radiation effects, Dr. Held has extensive interests and activities in teaching radiation sciences, mentoring and workforce development and in enhancing collaboration across disciplines and institutions.  Dr. Held holds a B.A. in chemistry from Thiel College, Greenville, PA, and a Ph.D. in biological sciences from the University of Texas in Austin.
