Sunil Weerakkody

Dr. Sunil Weerakkody is the Senior Level Advisor for Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  Dr. Weerakkody possesses over 30 years’ experience with PRA in both licensing and inspection programs. He has held a number of management in NRC in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and NRC's Region 1 during his 20-year NRC career.  Before joining the NRC, he was the PRA supervisor at Northeast Utilities and brings firsthand experience with risk models and use of risk-informed decisionmaking relating to plant engineering and operations. Dr. Weerakkody received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the NRC Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
