Richard Stattel

Richard Stattel joined the NRC in 2008 and is currently serving as Senior Electronics Engineer in the Electrical and Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Branch (EICB), in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.  Richard is responsible for technical reviews of instrumentation and control systems in operating nuclear reactors.  His past reviews include the digital protection system designs for the Oconee and Diablo Canyon NPP’s.

Previously, he was the lead engineer for the Software Project Engineering group of the General Electric – Hitachi ESBWR project and was responsible for the development of software quality assurance programs for that project.

Prior to this, Mr. Stattel worked for 20 years at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant as an I&C technician and as an I&C engineer and was a Reactor Operator in the US Navy.  Mr. Stattel earned a B.S. degree in Nuclear Science Engineering from the University of Maryland University College.
