James Isom

Mr. Isom is currently serving as the senior program manager for the Design Bases Assurance Inspections and the Light-Water Reactor Inspection Program in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations.  Mr. Isom and the regional representatives developed and piloted the current changes to the NRC's design engineering inspection program during CY 2015 and 2016.  These changes to the design inspection program was initiated at all U.S. nuclear facilities starting in CY 2017.

Mr. Isom joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in 1985 as a reactor engineer in the Office of Inspection and Enforcement.  He has also served as senior resident inspector at D.C. Cook before serving as the senior staff on various key inspection programs in the Office of NRR.  Before joining the NRC, Mr. Isom was an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in submarines.  Mr. Isom received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.
