Jan Bens

Jan Bens started his professional career in the nuclear power plant of Doel in 1978.  He held various positions in operations, safety management and support services.  In 1996 he was sent abroad for the Tractebel Group (Kazakhstan, Singapore).  From 1999 til 2003 he was in charge of the development of new electricity generation projects for Electrabel in Europe, with a special emphasis on renewable energy (wind, biomass) and cogeneration.  From 2004 till 2007 he was the station director for the nuclear power plant of Doel. 

In 2008, he became deputy director with WANO, the World Association of Nuclear Operators, in Paris.  This organization promotes safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide, by organizing operating experience feedback, training, technical support and reviews.

Since January 2013, he is the General Director of the Belgian Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC).
