Juan Carlos Lentijo

Juan Carlos Lentijo is Deputy Director General of the IAEA and Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security since October 2015.  

Prior to this, he was Director of the IAEA's Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology, having joined the Agency in 2012.  

He started his professional career in the nuclear sector in 1982.  He joined the Spanish Regulatory Body, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear in 1984, where he held several managerial positions, including General Director for Radiation Protection, Deputy Director General for Public and Environmental Radiation Protection and Deputy Director General for Emergencies and Physical Protection.

Mr. Lentijo holds a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Energy and Nuclear Engineering, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain.
