United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

TH34  International Exports: The Implementation of Export Controls by the Four U.S. Government Licensing Agencies

Exports of nuclear commodities from the United States are controlled by U.S. law and regulations, international treaties, and multilateral and bilateral international agreements. During this session, representatives from the NRC, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Department of State will discuss their role in reviewing applications for the export of nuclear materials, equipment, and technology. Presentations will include an overview of the licensing process and highlight how these agencies coordinate to ensure that export license applications meet the requirements of law and regulation. U.S. Government presenters will discuss recent trends in export applications and current challenges. The takeaway message will be that the goal of each agency's licensing program is to facilitate legitimate exports from the United States while maintaining the principles of nonproliferation.
