W13  Incorporation of FLEX into Regulatory Applications

This technical session will provide perspectives from the NRC and external stakeholders on the ongoing work to incorporate FLEX equipment and strategies into regulatory applications. This multiyear effort has been investigating the extended capabilities provided by the industry’s large investment in FLEX to further enhance the safety of nuclear plants beyond the safety gains provided by the Commission’s orders. This session will highlight examples of FLEX equipment being credited in license amendment requests and the significance determination process. The session will also discuss the progress that has been made, and the ongoing challenges, in using FLEX and portable equipment in licensing, oversight, and security applications.
