Mitigation of Beyond-Design-Basis Events Rule

Sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation

The poster will provide an update on a rule that would establish requirements for the mitigation of beyond design basis events. This rule would do the following:

  • Make generically applicable those requirements that were previously imposed by order for mitigating beyond design basis external events and for remotely monitoring spent fuel pool levels.
  • Include provisions to have an integrated response capability.
  • Include requirements for increased emergency response capabilities for multiunit events.
  • Address a number of petitions for rulemaking submitted in the aftermath of the Fukushima Dai ichi event.
