Yamir Diaz-Castillo

Yamir is a Reactor Operations Engineer in the NRC’s Quality Assurance Vendor Inspection Branch in the Office of New Reactors and has been with the NRC for 16 years.  Prior to joining the Branch, he worked in the Division of Engineering in both the Office of Nuclear Regulation and in the Office of New Reactors, dealing with steam generators and chemical engineering issues for the current fleet of operating reactors as well as with the new design of nuclear reactors.  Yamir graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.  Yamir is currently a member of the Working Group on Duties and Responsibilities of the Section III of the ASME Code and is currently a Lead Inspector within NRO.  Yamir is the NRC’s technical expert for activities associated with the NRC’s recognition of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation process for domestic and international commercial calibration and testing services and the author of both the Safety Evaluation Report and Regulatory Issue Summary that describe the NRC’s recognition of the ILAC accreditation process and the lead for the implementation of the SONGS lessons learned in the area of vendor oversight.
