Mirela Gavrilas

Dr. Mirela Gavrilas is Deputy Director in the Division of Risk Assessment in the Office for Nuclear Reactor Regulation.  She joined the NRC in 2004 and worked on thermal-hydraulics and severe accident issues, as well as on a novel approach to probabilistic safety margins.  She subsequently served as Deputy Director in the Division for Policy and Rulemaking in the Office for Nuclear Reactor Regulation, and branch chief in the Division of Safety Analysis and the Division of Engineering in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research.  Prior to joining the agency, Mirela served on the University of Maryland faculty.  She received her undergraduate degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from M.I.T.
