Robert Lukes

Since October 2016, Dr. Robert Lukes has served as the Chief of the Nuclear Performance and Code review branch in the Division of Safety System, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  Dr. Lukes joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in 2003 as project manager and technical reviewer in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards(NMSS).  In 2007, he was selected to serve as a team leader in the newly created Office of New Reactors (NRO) and led the development of the part 52 construction inspection program.  In 2015 he was selected to serve as the chief for the Construction Inspection Program Branch in NRO.

Dr. Lukes received a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering from University of Wisconsin – Madison, a master’s of science degree in environmental engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a doctorate in nuclear engineering from the University of South Carolina.  Prior to joining the NRC, Dr. Lukes served seven years in the Navy as a nuclear plant operator.
