W20 Safety Culture in Decommissioning
A growing number of licensees face the challenge of maintaining a strong safety culture during the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. As more plants begin preparation for decommissioning, it is important to ensure that safety remains a priority. Changes in staffing and work processes, along with new financial and political pressures, create an environment at risk for emerging safety concerns. It is essential that the safety culture continues to be fostered and maintained throughout this phase. Panelists will address safety culture issues that are particularly relevant to decommissioning through presentations on safety culture lessons learned from licensees that have completed decommissioning or are in the process of doing so.
