United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

W15  International Perspectives on Public Engagement

One of the NRC’s fundamental principles of good regulation is openness—the perspective that nuclear regulation is the public’s business and that it must be transacted publicly and candidly. Regulators worldwide also value openness with stakeholders and accomplish this goal through a variety of communications tools and activities, including social media platforms. A panel of international speakers will discuss their agencies’ efforts to maintain open communications with the public, including the methods used and lessons learned. Panelists will also share their insights on the cultural aspects of communication and explain how national culture may affect how regulators reach stakeholders and control the messages.
