Masahiro Uchida

Dr. Uchida was appointed to Director for Division of Research for Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Radioactive Waste of Nuclear Regulation Authority of JAPAN (NRA) in March 2014. Since then, Dr. Uchida has been supervised safety research that will be basis on NRA's regulatory standards and guides for reprocessing plant, nuclear fuel/spent fuel transport and storage, and waste disposal.

Before joining NRA, Dr. Uchida developed his career as a researcher in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES) through being engaged in research activities on geologic disposal of high-level radioactive waste including fracture flow and transport, site characterization method development, and safety assessment method development for 30 years.

Dr. Uchida's major achievement is demonstrating the value of in-situ tracer experiment for long-term performance assessment through the international joint project, Task 6 of Aspo task force on modelling of groundwater flow and transport of solutes organized by SKB, Sweden. He is also a member of OECD/NEA/RWMC and lAEA/WASSC.
