TH34  Enhancing the Significance Determination Process of the Reactor Oversight Process

This session will focus on ongoing and upcoming revisions to the Significance Determination Process (SDP) for determining the safety significance of reactor inspection findings. The Commission, concerned with the amount of time and resources spent on these determinations, directed the NRC staff to create an initiative to streamline the Significance Determination Process. Staff plans to pilot some changes later in 2016. Speakers will discuss the development and evaluation of potential process changes. Speakers will also discuss several fundamental and philosophical tenets of the ROP regarding the Significance Determination Process.
