TH29  Enhancing New Reactor Reviews through International Cooperation

As the nuclear industry becomes more global, multinational cooperation offers an opportunity for regulators to improve the efficiency of their new design reviews as well as the safety of the designs. One such multinational cooperation effort, the Multinational Design Evaluation Program, has been successful in leveraging the knowledge and resources of 14 national regulators. Regulators have been able to cooperate on specific design reviews, harmonize in the areas of digital instrumentation and controls as well as codes and standards, and perform joint and multinational vendor inspections. This session will discuss the activities and accomplishments of the program as well as its interactions with industry counterparts.
