W21  Procurement Oversight: Quality Counts

The procurement of goods and services for use in safety-related applications continues to be a challenge across the nuclear industry.  Changes in the supplier base have resulted in increased reliance on commercial products. This session will examine quality assurance (QA) from a practical perspective as it relates to the use of commercial products in safety-related applications.  The panelists will discuss why QA is needed, and how to achieve it. Panelists will present lessons learned from industry events and discuss positive examples of how quality is assured, including the commercial-grade-dedication (CGD) of complex items and reverse engineering.
