James D. Beardsley

James Beardsley has served as Chief of the Construction Inspection Program Branch in the NRC’s Office of New Reactors Division of Construction Inspection and Operational Programs for the past five years.  His branch is responsible for the development and management of the NRC’s Construction Inspection Program, including the inspection procedures, information technology support and programmatic support for the construction inspection staff.

Mr. Beardsley joined the NRC in 2004 as a Security Specialist in the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR).  He was selected to be a Force-on-Force Inspection Team Leader in 2006.  In 2008, Mr. Beardsley was mobilized by the Navy as the Deputy Commander of NAVELSG Forward.  He was responsible for the day to day operations and welfare of over 500 sailors assigned to seven bases in Kuwait and Iraq.  Mr. Beardsley continues to serve as a Captain in the Navy Reserve.   Following mobilization, he worked as a Senior Security Risk Analyst in NSIR.

Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Beardsley was a nuclear-trained submarine officer and completed Nuclear Engineer Officer certification. He also worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat as a Systems Engineering Specialist.  Mr. Beardsley received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, and master’s degrees in Business Administration and Systems Engineering from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.  He is a graduate of NRC’s Team Leader Development Program.
