Javier Reig is the Director of the NEA nuclear safety division since January 2004. He coordinates all NEA safety and regulatory activities, working with safety authorities, technical support organisations and industry. From 1996 to 2004 he was working in the Spanish nuclear regulatory authority, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear, as Director for International Relations in the chairman cabinet. From 1994 to 1996, he was coordinating international activities in the NEA safety division, related to severe accident assessment and research and accident analysis. From 1986 to 1994 he was the Director for Nuclear Safety in the Spanish regulatory authority, in charge among other topics of nuclear power plant licensing and emergency response. From 1977 to 1986 he took several responsibilities in the Spanish regulatory authority and Spanish research centre regarding licensing and inspection of nuclear power plants. He graduated as nuclear physicist from the Madrid University in 1976 and has several masters on nuclear safety form Stanford (US), Harwell (UK) and Madrid (Spain).
