Tim McGinty

Tim McGinty has served as the Director of the Division of Safety Systems, in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), since late-2012.  Mr. McGinty joined the NRC in 1991 as a Headquarters Operations Officer in the Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operational Data (AEOD).  He has since held progressively more responsible positions at the NRC, including Senior Project Manager in the Spent Fuel Project Office (SFPO), Chief of both the Operations and Coordination Sections in the Division of Incident Response Operations, Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR), Chief of the Inspection and Communications Section in the Division of Preparedness and Response, NSIR, and Deputy Director, Division of Operating Reactor Licensing, NRR, and as the Director of the Division of Policy and Rulemaking, NRR.  Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. McGinty spent 7 years as a test engineer and supervisor at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

Mr. McGinty holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the 2005 NRC Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
