Aladar Csontos

Aladar Csontos is Chief of the Renewals and Materials Branch of the Division of Spent Fuel Management in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS).  Dr. Csontos manages eleven staff working on Part 71/72 licensing with a focus on Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation license and certificates of compliance renewals, as well as the development of aging management guidance.  Prior to NMSS, Dr. Csontos worked in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, Division of Engineering as a Senior Materials Engineer and Chief of the Component Integrity Branch, directing up to 17 staff members with expertise in non-destructive testing, materials science, metallurgy, and structural and mechanical engineering focused on structural integrity issues of nuclear reactor components.  Prior to the NRC, he worked at the Center for Naval Analyses and conducted operational research studies for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.  Dr. Csontos received his BS in Materials Science & Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and his MS and PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Virginia.   He received the 2003 TMS Young Leader Professional Development Award, most outstanding technical research paper of 2002 by the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Professor Robert B. Pond, Sr. Undergraduate Achievement Award, Colonel Decias Wadsworth Academic Scholarship Award, and Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
