Joseph Giitter

Mr. Giitter is currently the Director of the Division of Risk Assessment in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  In this role, he directs staff responsible for risk-informed reactor licensing and operation, accident dose assessment, health physics, human performance, and fire protection.

He joined the NRC in 1985 as a Reactor Systems Specialist in the former Office of Inspection and Enforcement.  Since that time, he held a number of progressively more responsible positions, including the Director of Operating Reactor Licensing in NRR.  Mr. Giitter received his bachelors degree in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University and his masters degree from The University of Tennessee, where he studied probabilistic risk assessment.  Prior to joining NRC, Mr. Giitter worked for Westinghouse, Technology for Energy Corporation, and the Omaha Public Power District.
