Masashi Hirano

Masashi Hirano is Associate Vice-President of the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES). He used to be Director General for Nuclear Safety Research Center in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and moved to JNES just after the Fukushima accident.

Dr. Hirano has been a research engineer in the area of safety analysis and operating experience feedback for more than 35 years. Currently, he is a member of several review teams of the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) on the new regulatory requirements and framework. He is also active in the international cooperation activities on nuclear safety in OECD/NEA and IAEA.
