Lawrence Kokajko

Mr. Lawrence Kokajko is currently the Director of the Division of Policy and Rulemaking in NRR.  He joined the NRC in 1989 as a project engineer in NRR, and later served as project manager and senior project manager. In 1995, he transferred to the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) as a senior project manager in the Spent Fuel Project Office, and later became chief of the NMSS Risk Task Group. In 2003, he was selected as chief of the Environmental and Performance Branch in the Division of Waste Management, and promoted into the Senior Executive Service. In 2004, he was selected as Deputy Director, Division of High-Level Waste Repository Safety, and in 2006, he was appointed director of that division. Due to changes in the national high-level waste program, his division evolved into the Division of Spent Fuel Alternative Strategies.  Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Kokajko worked in the commercial nuclear power industry.
