Antoni Gurgui

Dr. Gurguí was sworn in as a Commissioner of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) on March 2009, to an initial term ending March 2015.

He acts as CSN representative at the Commission of Safety Standards (IAEA) and in WENRA, and he was Vice-president of the leading committee for the European Stress Tests. He also leads the CSN tasks related to the Nuclear Safety Convention. He has recently been appointed as the Commissioner in charge of the bilateral relations with the U.S. NRC. Among other responsibilities inside CSN, Dr. Gurguí also leads the Committee of liaison with the Spanish utilities, the Committee on regulations and the Committee on management.

After thirteen years of experience in various responsibilities in energy policy in the Department of Industry and Energy, Dr. Gurguí also served four years as Director General for Industry of the Catalan Government.

For more than 25 years he has been university professor in the fields of nuclear engineering, heat transfer and hydrology at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is author or coauthor of various books and publications on nuclear fusion, energy, land use & transportation, industry, hydrology, competitiveness, etc.

During his broad professional career in industry, academia and administration, he has also chaired or been member of the board of various companies, R&D centers, and promotion and/or investment organizations.

Dr. Gurguí holds a PhD and a Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Barcelona. He also holds an M.Sc.Eng. in nuclear engineering from the University of Michigan (Fulbright fellow), and graduate degrees in Hydrology and in Public Management.
