Rani L. Franovich

Rani L. Franovich is Chief of the Performance Assessment Branch in the Division of Inspection and Regional Support, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  Her Branch supports NRR’s mission to protect public health, safety, and the environment by providing tools for inspecting and assessing licensee performance.  Specifically, her staff maintains the framework of the Reactor Oversight Process, including the assessment process, the significance determination process, and the performance indicator program. Her branch also includes the Allegation Center of Expertise for several NRC program offices. 

Ms. Franovich joined the NRC in 1991 as a Reactor Safety Intern in HQ.  She served as a project engineer in NRC’s Region II office and as a Resident Inspector at Catawba Nuclear Station.  She transitioned hack to HQ in 2001 to manage the McGuire and Catawba license renewal project.  She has served as NRR’s Technical Assistant for Enforcement, as a Technical Assistant to Commissioner Merrifield, and as Chief of Environmental and Safety Review branches for Reactor License Renewal. 

Ms. Franovich has a B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, both from Virginia Tech.
