TH29  Small Modular Reactor Licensing – Transition from Concept to Implementation

The session will cover the current status of SMR projects, with a focus on the NRC’s readiness to conduct these reviews, industry’s readiness to support these reviews, and what challenges remain. Specific discussion areas will include NRC changes to internal guidance (e.g., acceptance reviews) as well as external guidance (e.g., design specific review standards). Industry panelist(s) will discuss their state of “readiness.” The session will include discussion of challenge areas related to the certification and licensing of SMR designs, such as the application of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), multimodule risk analysis, control room staffing, and emergency preparedness.
