Jay Collins

Mr. Jay Collins has over 15 years of government service in the nuclear field.  Mr. Collins joined the NRC in 2001 as a materials engineer in the Division of Engineering.  Currently, Mr. Collins is a senior materials engineer focusing on stress corrosion cracking and boric acid corrosion issues in the Division of Component Integrity.  Prior to the NRC, Mr. Collins was enlisted in the US Navy for six years, serving most of his time in the machinery division of the USS Boston (SSN-703) as a mechanic and nuclear grade welder.  Mr. Collins is currently a member of inspection optimization and materials design related committees responsible for developing requirements contained in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.  Mr. Collins graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign with a B.S. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering.
