Masashi Hirano

Dr. Hirano is Associate Vice-President of the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES) since October 2011. He used to be Director General for Nuclear Safety Research Center in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA).

He has been involved in safety analysis of LWRs and operating experience feedback for more than 35 years. He has been a member of several review teams for many years including those set up by Nuclear Regulation Authority to examine new safety standards responding to Fukushima Daiichi Accident. He is also active in the international cooperation activities on nuclear safety in OECD/NEA and IAEA.
