W24 Storage and Transportation of High Burnup Fuel

Discussion will focus on presenting a roadmap for issues associated with the storage and transportation of high burnup spent nuclear fuel (i.e., fuel that has been irradiated to a burnup level of greater than 45,000 MWD/MTU), and the regulatory compliance issues for both 10 CFR Part 71, "Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Material", and 10 CFR 72, "Licensing Requirements for the Independent Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel, High-Level Radioactive Waste, and Reactor-Related Greater than Class C Waste." New publically available data on fuel cladding integrity will be addressed, and the possibility of credible fuel reconfiguration will also be presented.
